The Red Lion

Opposite the church stands The Red Lion that probably dates from the seventeenth century although there may have been an earlier inn on the same site. In the early years it was a farm, grocers and alehouse before becoming a Public House in the 1920s.

The Globe

The Globe Inn was situated on Fen Road, close to the Main Road. John Thomas Smith was the innkeeper at the Globe Inn for over 40 years until he retired after the death of his wife, Annie, in 1940.

John kept pigs and poultry and was a coal dealer. He would use his horse and cart to carry people and goods to market.

The Globe was a gathering point for the village, especially during the Second World War.

In 1979 The Globe was sold without the licence for £15,000 and it is now a private house.

The Jolly Sailor was situated at the edge of the parish at Hagnaby Lock. The building is still there but it is no longer a public house.
